It can also be used as a solvent and dissolution medium.There are generally two methods for preparing geranyl lactone: esterification reaction and alcohol-catalyzed reaction. Among them, the esterification reaction is carried out by reacting acetic acid with alcohol, while the alcohol-catalyzed reaction occurs when acetic acid and alcohol react in the presence of an acid catalyst.Geranyl lactone may cause irritation to the eyes and skin and should be thoroughly washed off after contact. It is somewhat volatile and should be stored in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhalation.
