Introduction

No smell. It has an alkali taste. It’s hygroscopic. The exposed air gradually absorbs 1mol/L water (about 15%). Carbon dioxide is lost at 400 ℃. Decompose and effervescent in case of acid. Soluble in water (3.5 parts at room temperature and 2.2 parts at 35 ℃) and glycerol, insoluble in alcohol. The aqueous solution is strongly alkaline, pH11.6. Median lethal dose (30 days) (mice, abdominal cavity) 116.6 mg/kg. It’s irritating.
