Stearic acid(CAS#57-11-4)
Introduction
Stearic acid. The following is an introduction to some properties, uses, preparation methods, and safety information of stearic acid:Properties:- Appearance: Stearic acid is a white solid with a waxy texture.- Solubility: Stearic acid is poorly soluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ether, petroleum ether, and benzene.Uses:- Industrial use: Stearic acid is widely used in the manufacture of waxes and lubricants, such as candles, paints, polishes, and lubricating oils.Preparation:Stearic acid can be obtained through the hydrogenation of animal and vegetable fats or extracted from palm oil. In the hydrogenation process, fats undergo hydrolysis and rearrangement reactions to produce stearic acid. The palm oil extraction method involves neutralizing and washing the palm oil with acids and bases, followed by crystallization to obtain stearic acid.Safety information:Under normal conditions, stearic acid is relatively safe for humans, but prolonged or large-scale exposure may cause skin dryness, allergies, and other issues. During use, direct contact with the eyes and skin should be avoided. In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately with water. Please refer to relevant safety guidelines and follow safe handling procedures.
