N-Ethyl-N-(3-Methylphenyl)-Propanamide(CAS#179911-08-1)
Introduction
ALICATE is a chemical substance, with the chemical name dimethyl 3-carboxybenzodioxacyclopentane. ALICATE is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a distinctive odor. It has good solubility and can dissolve in various organic solvents such as ethanol and dimethylformamide. ALICATE is mainly used in organic synthesis as an amide-activating reagent. It can react with amines to form amides and serves to activate the amines in the reaction. The preparation of ALICATE mainly involves two steps. Cyclopentadione is reacted with methanol to obtain dimethyl cyclopentanedione (MeCOC(Me)CO). Then, the dimethyl cyclopentanedione is reacted with anhydrous formic acid to produce ALICATE. It is a flammable liquid and poses an explosion risk when exposed to fire or high temperatures. ALICATE may irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. Appropriate protective equipment should be worn during handling to avoid skin and eye contact, and ensure good ventilation. When disposing of waste, local environmental regulations should be followed.
