Introduction

Ethylene glycol methyl vinyl ether (MVE) is an organic compound. The following is an introduction to the nature, use, manufacturing method, and safety information of MVE:Quality:- MVE is a colorless liquid with low volatility.- It is soluble in water and also soluble in many organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and ketone solvents.Use:- MVE is widely used in chemical synthesis, surface coatings, coatings, plastics, rubber, textiles and adhesives.- It acts as an important organic solvent that can be used to improve reaction efficiency and product quality.Method:- Ethylene glycol methyl vinyl ether can be prepared by esterification of ethylene glycol and methacryl ether (or methyl methacrylate).- The reaction requires the presence of a catalyst, and commonly used catalysts are sulfuric acid, phosphorous acid, etc.Safety Information:- MVE is safe for human health under normal conditions of use. It is still an irritating chemical and should be avoided when in direct contact with the skin and eyes.- Proper ventilation should be taken during use and inhalation of its vapors should be avoided to prevent possible irritation.- When storing and handling MVEs, it is necessary to follow general safe operating procedures for chemicals and avoid contact with ignition sources and oxidants to prevent hazards such as fire or explosion.

Application
2-Methoxyethyl vinyl ether (MEVE, MOVE) is a reactive monomer used in cationic and radical polymerization to produce specialty poly(vinyl ethers). As a low-viscosity reactive diluent for high-solid coatings, adhesives, and inks, it reduces VOCs while improving flexibility, adhesion, and chemical resistance. Its oxyethylene pendant group imparts water solubility, enabling hydrogels and thermoresponsive polymers for drug delivery systems. Poly(MEVE) exhibits antimicrobial activity against S. aureus and E. coli, making it suitable for wound dressings. Poly(MEVE) also functions as a stealth nanoparticle coating (PMOVE) that resists protein adsorption and platelet adhesion, offering a PEGylation alternative for biomedical applications. Additionally, MEVE is utilized in the synthesis of RAFT polymers, 3D printing resins, and electronic encapsulation materials. Xinchem offers custom synthesis and contract manufacturing of high‑purity 2-methoxyethyl vinyl ether (≥95%, stabilized) from R&D to commercial tons. Contact us for a competitive quote.
