Properties
Cycloaliphatic diepoxides have been produced since 1956 by Union Carbide Corporation. Due to their different preparation method compared to conventional bisphenol-A type epoxy resins, they exhibit the following characteristics:

- Reduced ionic impurities
- Low viscosity
- Excellent processability
- High crosslink density in cured products
- High heat resistance
- High weather resistance
- Good ultraviolet resistance
- Good resistance to electronic radiation
- Superior electrical properties including arc resistance, tracking resistance, and high volume resistivity

Preparation Method
Cycloaliphatic epoxy resins are obtained by epoxidizing unsaturated cycloaliphatic compounds. Purpose
Cycloaliphatic epoxy compounds such as Epoxy 269, Epoxy 206, Epoxy 201, and Epoxy 221 can be used as reactive diluents. Among them, Epoxy 269 and Epoxy 206 are high-boiling-point, low-viscosity liquids that remain fluid even at -60°C, making them excellent diluents for epoxy resins. As the dosage increases, the viscosity of the epoxy system decreases significantly, while the heat distortion temperature remains nearly constant—a feature unmatched by conventional epoxy diluents.

Used as insulating potting materials, these organic insulators replace ceramic products, offering advantages such as light weight, compact size, and excellent impact resistance. They are suitable for encapsulating light-emitting diodes (LEDs), as well as for potting transformers and high-voltage coils.

In fiberglass-reinforced plastics and filament winding applications, cycloaliphatic epoxy resins overcome the low heat distortion temperature drawback of bisphenol-A type epoxies, while maintaining low system viscosity and improved workability. Bisphenol-A type epoxies provide necessary tensile properties.

As adhesives, cycloaliphatic epoxy resins offer unique advantages, forming strong chemical bonds even on contaminated or oily metal surfaces—outperforming glycidyl ether-type epoxies.

In coating applications, cycloaliphatic epoxy resins exhibit distinctive performance. Coatings based on these resins demonstrate excellent high-temperature resistance: Epoxy 201 withstands temperatures above 230°C, Epoxy 206 above 250°C, and Epoxy 207 up to 300°C. Their surface resistivity and tracking resistance help preserve color and enhance durability in outdoor coatings.

For mold manufacturing, cycloaliphatic epoxy resins can serve as the resin component in plastic molds. The resulting cured products exhibit good thermal stability, high mechanical strength, low volume shrinkage, and high precision, making them ideal for precision casting molds and tooling.
