Introduction

At room temperature is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with a slight smell. It is easily soluble in water and other organic solvents. It is active in chemical properties and easy to hydrolyze and polymerize. N-vinylpyrrolidone is also an organic solvent with extremely excellent performance. Application
N-Vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP, CAS 88-12-0) is a high-purity, reactive vinyl monomer used to produce polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and copolymers via free-radical polymerization. As a key building block, it imparts hydrophilicity, biocompatibility, and complexing ability. In pharmaceuticals, NVP-based polymers serve as tablet binders, plasma expanders, and solubilizing excipients for poorly soluble drugs. In personal care, PVP acts as a film-former in hairsprays, setting lotions, and adhesives. In industrial coatings and adhesives, NVP enhances adhesion, flexibility, and crosslinking density. It is also used in UV-curable formulations, printing inks, and membrane filtration materials. As a reactive diluent, it reduces viscosity while introducing pyrrolidone functionality. Additionally, NVP finds application in textile sizing, paper coatings, and as a dispersant for pigments and agrochemicals.
